Over the next six years (2010-2015) ISIS has allocated special funds to build an integrated interdisciplinary field profile theme focusing on “Islam and Muslim societies.” A key objective is to integrate and utilize the knowledge and expertise in the field. ISIS (International Study Onderzoeksschool voor Islam / University Center School of Islamic Studies) PhD positions 5

Institution
ISIS (Inter-University for Islamic Studies School) is a national research institute for the Study of Islam and Muslim societies in which eight Dutch universities participate. Leiden University is responsible for the administration of ISIS.

Conditions
The positions are 1.0 FTE for 4 years (or 0.8 to 5 years). Ph.D. candidates will be appointed initially for eighteen months on campus, participating in ISIS, which the sponsor is affiliated. At a satisfactory performance in this period, the appointment extended by two years and half. Gross salary is 2,042 per month during the first year, rising to a maximum of â, ¬ 2,612 gross per calendar month in the fourth year in line with pay scales in force as the “CAO voor Nederlandse Universiteit”. You will also receive a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your annual income.

Requirements
Applicants must have a degree or equivalent. Preference will be given applicants with a master’s degree in humanities, social sciences and theology with a specialization in Islam and Muslim societies. Excellent research, demonstrated in a high-quality MA thesis or equivalent. Excellent English skills.
