America has put a huge step towards equality in recent decades largely due to action King in 1960. Although our King, is now a good time to remember some of the other major contribution to the civil rights movement.

Scholarship of the Week this week gives students the opportunity to do so. High school senior has a chance to win two $ 2500 scholarships by writing a scholarship essay in 1000 words or less about Jackie Robinson, first African American player in Major League Baseball, with emphasis on his contribution to the Civil Rights Movement and how he broke racial obstacles in his career. Students respond to one of two questions: “What impact or effect of Jackie Robinson, first African American to modern Major League Baseball game, the Civil Rights Movement?” Or “What is the comparative aspects of historic BREAKTHROUGHS on Jackie Robinson in baseball and Barack Obama in politics?” Formatting rules and a list of possible sources are the competition website.
